The modern dentistry procedures: dental facets

It's good to see you here on pages Czech Dental Care Clinic!

This section of our site of cosmetic dentistry clinic provides you with some background materials about dental facets, both composite and porcelain.

The dental facets can be used to correct both color and shape problems of the tooth. The dental facets now are probably the most esthetic means of creating a more pleasing and beautiful smile.

Teeth enamel discoloration can be caused by staining, aging, or chemical damage of teeth too. Some of the more common causes of teeth discoloration are medications, coffee, tea or cigarettes. People who drink significant amounts of cola soft drinks can experience similar staining.

The dental facets are not the only alternative for all esthetic abnormalities but are truly a remarkable restoration when they are the treatment of choice.

Often an alternative to dental crowns, dental facets are very thin pieces of specially-shaped porcelain or plastic that are glued over the front of your teeth with little or no anesthesia needed.

The dental facets is the cure for teeth that are severely discolored, chipped, have small holes or pits, misshapen or crooked, and use for the correction of unwanted or uneven spaces too.

The dental facets are usually created from an impression taken in cosmetic dentist's office. Each of your custom dental facets then glued directly onto your prepared tooth.

The dental facets are thin like contact lenses, and will usually only need tooth reduction of 0.5mm to 1.0mm. If a drastic change is being made for the result you want, reduction may be 1.0mm to 2.0mm. A mold is taken of the teeth, from which the veneers are modeled after.

The dental facets usually require a minimal amount of tooth brushing (commonly it .5 mm only) and are, therefore, a more conservative tooth restoration procedure than a dental crown. More, dental facets allow us to alter tooth position, shape, size and color.

Between your visit for preparation a dental facets and visit for the insertion dental facets, you can expect some sensitivity to hot and cold. This is normal and is due to the removal of a small portion of the enamel covering of the tooth. This sensitivity usually disappear after the placement of your dental facets.

Between your visit for preparation a dental facets and visit for the insertion dental facets the temporary dental facets, in case of you will be have it, will be placed and worn until your permanent dental facets are ready.

While wearing the temporary dental facets (in case of you will be have it), ask your cosmetic dentist about any adjustments or changes you would like made, such as in shape or size.

There are two dental facets procedures available today on market. One is composite dental facets procedure, and second is porcelain dental facets procedure. They both will be correct discoloration of your teeth by removing the brown and yellow staining.

While each dental facets procedure, composite and porcelain, work effectively, there are advantages and disadvantages dependent on your objectives and commitment to the processes. You will discuss with your doctor the type of procedure that the best suit to you. Your doctor will recommend the most appropriate dental facets procedure for you.

The porcelain dental facets procedure use very thin porcelain material. Usually porcelain dental facets require two visits and also require a dental laboratory to create the final tooth restoration piece.

A relative new type of porcelain dental facets, lumineers, made from cerinate porcelain. They are contact lens-thin, roughly .2 mm thick. Little to no tooth reduction in most cases is necessary with this type of dental facets and anesthetics or numbing shots are not needed.

It takes roughly a week or two of a period of adjustment to get used to your teeth that have been changed in color, size, spacing and shape. While very little tooth is removed in most cases, there are situations where more tooth must be removed which increases the risk of trauma to the tooth.

Approximately one week after the placement of your dental facets you have to asked to return to the doctor for a treatment evaluation. This visit is extremely important. It gives your dentist the opportunity to evaluate the placement of the dental facets, the tissue response and to answer any questions you might have regarding your new smile.

Once placed your dental facets are very strong and will resist most of the forces placed upon them by a normal diet. Porcelain has great crushing strength but poor tensile strength. Therefore, you should avoid anything that will tend to twist the veneers. Opening pistachio nuts with your teeth or chewing on bones or jelly apples is probably not a good idea. As with most things, common sense should prevail.

The dental facets are very reasonable facsimiles of natural teeth, but not perfect replacements for natural teeth. It's common to see slight variations in the color of dental facets upon very close inspection, the same way as with natural teeth. It can take up to a month or two before your new smile feels a part of you.

When considering dental facets a common question is how white the dental facets should be. Usually, the answer is to whiten your natural teeth to either the level of whiteness you want or to the brightest they can be. Your cosmetic dentist will then have your dental facets made to that color.

The natural teeth are not monochromatic, so typically more than one color is used to create a very natural look. This color variation is critical in avoiding fake or artificial looking teeth. It is the internal contrast of colors that help create vitality. The internal play of light on the porcelain helps to create this vitality. Surface texture is also very important, and helps to break up light reflections and make the your dental facets look more natural.

Yes, not all of your teeth are the same natural color. Usually your eye teeth tend to be darker than the others, your front teeth are typically the whitest, and molars tend to be a shade between the two. The goal for everyone is to achieve their individual optimum whiteness while still looking natural.

Most dentists will show you a shade chart, for example the Vita shade guide, for you to pick from. Keep in mind, with a good cosmetic dentist this is merely a starting point. Other considerations when determining the color of future dental facets for each patient are your complexion, hair color, the color of your natural teeth and even your eye color.

Once placed, dental eneers are typically the kindest restoration to the gum tissues that we currently have in our prosthetic armamentarium. Do not be afraid that you will damage your dental facets by either flossing or brushing. Any non-abrasive tooth paste is acceptable. A good home care regimen will insure the esthetic success of your dental facets restorations for years to come.

Finally, a whiter smile gives people to whom you are speaking a place to focus on and gives you a friendlier appearance.
